  • Venue: Richard Koh Fine Art, Blk 47 Malan Road #01-26, Gillman Barracks, Singapore 109444
  • Date: 11 January – 15 February 2025

Coinciding with Singapore Art Week 2025, The Squares marks the debut solo exhibition at RKFA Singapore by the prolific Burmese artist duo Tun Win Aung and Wah Nu. This deeply reflective showcase draws from their ongoing project, Thousand Pieces of White (begun 2009), which chronicles three decades of Myanmar’s personal and political history.

Curated by Louis Ho, The Squares reexamines material artifacts of Myanmar’s past, from remnants of censorship to cultural artifacts. The centerpiece of the exhibition includes the restored 1973 film Tender are the Feet (Ché Phawa Daw Nu Nu), a masterwork by renowned Burmese filmmaker Maung Wunna. This cinematic gem complements the artists’ works, adding a layered perspective to the exhibition’s exploration of memory, suppression, and resilience.

Through poignant narratives and evocative visuals, The Squares invites audiences to contemplate how history and politics shape individual and collective identities. The exhibition reinforces RKFA’s commitment to presenting thought-provoking and socially resonant art that bridges local histories with global contexts.

These two presentations not only highlight the diversity of Southeast Asian contemporary art but also reflect RKFA’s unwavering commitment to nurturing artistic innovation and cultural dialogue. As 2025 approaches, art enthusiasts and collectors alike can anticipate a profound exploration of storytelling, history, and creative evolution through the lenses of these exceptional artists.
