When “iconic” and “hat” grace the same sentence, one name invariably springs to mind: Borsalino. For over a century and a half, the Maison has epitomized Italian excellence, crafting headwear that transcends mere accessory to become a symbol of prestige, elegance, and cinematic allure. From Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca to Robert De Niro in Once Upon a Time in America, the Borsalino hat has crowned legends, imbuing each frame with an undeniable sartorial gravitas. But as the fashion landscape evolves, so too does this venerable house, embarking on a thrilling expansion that promises to redefine its legacy far beyond the iconic brim.
This spring, Borsalino unveils its inaugural Resort 2026 Bags Capsule Collection, a sophisticated prelude to its debut Leather Goods Collection for Fall-Winter 2026. This pivotal moment marks a new chapter for the Maison, forged through a strategic licensing agreement with Swiss-based Gamat, a company celebrated for its mastery in high-end leather goods. The collaboration signals a thoughtful and deliberate diversification, ensuring that the brand’s inherent craftsmanship and timeless aesthetic are meticulously translated into new categories.

The capsule collection introduces three indispensable silhouettes: a chic tote bag, a generously proportioned large tote, and a versatile pouch. Each piece is a manifesto to understated luxury, meticulously crafted from cotton gabardine and supple calf leather. The color palette is an homage to minimalism, featuring classic total black and elegant cream, subtly accented with deep dark brown. This sophisticated selection is perfectly attuned to the season’s first sun-drenched days, effortlessly transitioning from the bustling city streets to seaside escapes.
To commemorate this significant milestone, Borsalino will host an exclusive, invitation-only light lunch on May 20th at its Cannes Boutique, coinciding with the prestigious 2026 Cannes Film Festival. This event will not only celebrate the arrival of this exciting new category within the Borsalino universe but also underscore the brand’s enduring connection to the worlds of art and cinema.
This expansion into leather goods is a natural progression for Borsalino, building upon recent successful ventures that have broadened its lifestyle offerings. Following the 2025 introduction of its exquisite fragrance line for women and men, developed under license with Perfume Street, and its stylish eyewear collections created in partnership with Ophy Eyewear, the Maison continues to curate a comprehensive world of luxury. These in-store activations are integral to a broader international calendar of events, spanning Borsalino’s key boutiques across Italy, France and the United Kingdom. The recent opening of its Boutique at Plaza 66 in Shanghai further solidifies the brand’s global footprint, marking a significant foray into the burgeoning Greater China market.
At its heart, Borsalino remains a beacon of artisanal savoir-faire. Since 1857, the Alessandria manufacture in Italy has meticulously preserved a priceless cultural heritage, where the creation of each felt hat demands over 50 manual operations and at least seven weeks of dedicated processing. The intricate straw models, woven by hand, can take up to six months to complete. This solid commitment to high-level craftsmanship is the very foundation upon which Borsalino builds its future, ensuring that every new creation carries the indelible mark of its illustrious past. The new bag collection, therefore, is not only an addition but an extension of this deep legacy, inviting discerning individuals to carry a piece of Borsalino’s iconic elegance wherever they go.
