Story by Editor-in-Chief Carolina Ogliaro
The contemporary world made us used to chase fleeting trends, but a Bulgarian footwear brand is powerfully reimaging luxury through a profound reverence for heritage, meticulous craftsmanship, and an audacious embrace of contemporary art. INGILIZ, a name steeped in generations of shoemaking expertise, has joined forces with the visionary multidisciplinary artist Nikol Andonova, known as NIKYOTO, to create a capsule collection that blurs the lines between sculpture and wearable design. This collection is a movement, a philosophy, and a visible trace of the human hand in an increasingly automated world. As their second capsule collection prepares to launch, we delve into the story of a collaboration setting a new standard for artistic expression in fashion, marking a point where true luxury is found, where tradition meets fearless innovation.
Sofia, Bulgaria. In the heart of Europe, a revolution in luxury footwear has been brewing. INGILIZ, a brand born from a family legacy dating back to 1976, has long been celebrated for its commitment to artisanal shoemaking. Each pair is handcrafted in Peshtera, Bulgaria, using age-old techniques passed down through generations, embodying a philosophy where history, integrity, and focus are woven into every stitch. But in 2026, INGILIZ took a bold step beyond traditional design, announcing its groundbreaking collaboration with multidisciplinary artist Nikol Andonova, the creative force behind NIKYOTO. This partnership, revealed during Milan Design Week, marked a significant moment for contemporary Bulgarian design on the international stage, transforming footwear into a canvas for profound artistic expression.

NIKYOTO, Nikol Andonova’s artistic universe, explores deformation, gestures, and conscious imperfection, drawing inspiration from Eastern philosophy and the symbolism of Enso. Her work is characterized by a resistance to fixed form, preserving the visible trace of the hand as an integral part of each piece. It was this shared dedication to the handmade, to visible process over perfect form, that forged the powerful synergy between INGILIZ and NIKYOTO. The debut capsule, INGILIZ x NIKYOTO, was an inspiring manifesto to this fusion: a limited collection where sculptural footwear met contemporary art, translating Andonova’s signature hand-shaped aesthetic into wearable design. The collection transformed softness and intentional imperfection into sculptural silhouettes designed to move with the body.
“I translated my signature work into leather, where folding is not an effect but a process,” says Andonova. “The surface becomes movement, shaped by hand and held between spontaneity and control. I’m not searching for perfect form but for one where the process remains visible. The capsule follows a pattern, but the manual work gives each piece its uniqueness.” The collection featured two sculptural designs, NI and KA, available in four sophisticated colorways: black, white, taupe, and bordeaux, complemented by the KAI belt, extending the artistic language into a unified system.
Remzi Ingilizov, CEO of INGILIZ, emphasized the collaborative spirit: “This collaboration is a celebration of Bulgarian craftsmanship, of the hands, the heritage, and the precision behind every pair we create. With INGILIZ x NIKYOTO, we wanted to go beyond traditional footwear design and create something that carries both artistic expression and technical mastery. As a modern brand, we also believe timing is key, bringing Bulgarian creative forces together and presenting them on an international stage in Milan is no coincidence.”
Now, as the anticipation builds for their second capsule collection, the fashion world watches with bated breath. The first collaboration served as proof that luxury footwear can be a canvas for profound artistic expression, a dialogue between tradition and avant-garde. It showcased how a brand deeply rooted in heritage can embrace modern artistic visions to create something truly groundbreaking. The upcoming capsule promises to further explore this fascinating synergy, pushing the boundaries of design and craftsmanship and elevating INGILIZ and NIKYOTO’s position as pioneers in the wearable art movement. With Drop II, the capsule shifts the narrative from observation to action. If the first chapter positioned the shoe as an object of contemplation, framed by gallery walls, paint, and stillness, the second releases it into motion. The setting moves from the controlled atmosphere of an exhibition space to the charged energy of a padel court after midnight, where elegance collides with spontaneity. The result captures a particular kind of contemporary luxury, diluted without perfection but confidence; not occasion dressing but instinct. Drop II exists in that fleeting space between structure and freedom, when the night has no plan and that becomes the point.
The INGILIZ x NIKYOTO collaboration is a real cultural dialogue, a fusion of Bulgarian heritage and contemporary artistic vision. True luxury lies in the stories they tell and the emotions they evoke. INGILIZ and NIKYOTO send customers an invitation to step into a world where every stride is a work of art, and every movement is made through the power of creativity. This partnership exemplifies how a deep respect for tradition, combined with a fearless pursuit of innovation, can create pieces that are experienced. We saw two distinct creative forces unite to craft something truly unique and timeless, leaving an indelible mark on the landscape of luxury fashion. The future of footwear, it seems, relates more to the story you carry with every step than only to the item itself.
